Biography
Saheed Osupa was born as Akorede Babatunde Okunola on August 7, 1969, in the Mosafejo area of Ajegunle, Lagos State. He grew up in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, where he spent his early years. His father, Moshood Ajiwere Layeye, was a Wéré music artist and also an elder cousin of Fuji musician Ayinde Barrister.
In 1983, while Saheed Osupa was a teenager, he began performing professionally as a Fuji artist. His first album was titled Fuji Fa Disco, followed by Fuji Blues. He has published more than 40 studio albums, including Mr. Music, a 4-in-1 studio CD. Saheed Osupa received the title of “King of Fuji Music” from Ayinde Barrister in 2008.
Saheed Osupa is also the creator of Hip Fuji, a fusion of Fuji and hip hop music. He released his first Hip Fuji album titled Non-Stop in 2018. He has also released several hip hop singles, such as Vanakula, African Beauty, and Womi, featuring K-Solo, Yetunde Omobadan, and Seriki respectively.
Saheed Osupa is also a film actor who has appeared in over 30 Yoruba movies. Some of his notable films are Oba Orin, Irawo Osan, and Omo Osan.
